Pasta Sauce

I always, always have some sort of basic pasta sauce in my pantry AT ALL TIMES!!  I love pasta and its so versatile!

There are types of sauce I make – homemade and semi-homemade.  Either is delicious and can be used in baked ziti, penne pasta, pizzas, on spaghetti noodles, and more!!

Homemade sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef (this is, of course, optional; it will still taste great with no meat)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce (or crushed tomatoes, add tomato paste to thicken it)
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • season to taste with oregano, basil, Italian, salt, pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Directions:

  1. Saute the beef and onion.  Drain.
  2. Return the beef and onion to the original pot.
  3. Add tomato sauce, sugar, butter, garlic, and seasonings.
  4. Cover and cook on low heat for about thirty minutes.  (Remember, the longer it cooks, the more flavor it will hold.)
Semi-homemade sauceIngredients

  • can of pasta sauce, any brand (I buy the cheapest available because it will taste delicious when I’m done with it!)
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • seasonings – oregano, basil, Italian, salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan.
  2. Cover and cook on low heat for about thirty minutes.

Cake Mix

Turn any box of store bought cake mix into a baked good that tastes 100% homemade!!

  • replace the water with milk
  • replace the oil with 2x the amount of melted butter
  • increase the number of eggs by one or two eggs
